I was in the Mobile Joann's store & just needed a one inch swatch of 2 fabrics to check to see which would be a better match. I needed fabric $13 fabric to line drawers of a beautiful cabinet my husband had made.

I was told that Joann's CHARGES FOR SWATCHES!! How ridiculous is that given that once we are satisfied, we will make a purchase!! I have been sewing for 55 years & have NEVER been charged for a swatch of cloth. If every inch counts, then they can KEEP IT!!

I have also been charged for the last 2 inches on a bolt, knowing that they could never sell such a small piece. I will go to an area quilt shop or Hobby Lobby in the future!!

Reason of review: Poor customer service.

Preferred solution: Let the company propose a solution.

What is 2 inches x 18 = ? ONE yard.

Now imagine you have hundreds of people coming to the store and each wanting an inch or two and most wont buy the fabric they took swatches for. This can lead to a big loss for a company. What is doen years ago, doesnt mean things are done the same way.

Also I have over heard teachers BRAG that they would send their friends and family members into the fabric stores and get as many swatches they can get for free, to cover their bulletin boards at school. 55 years ago, many things were cheaper, honest and done a certain way, but things change with time and you can thank the people who ruin it for others.

Once saw a fashion student at the cut counter. She said oh please can I just get a "couple" of swatches.

Cutter got okay just this once from the manager, help a starving student out right? Ended up getting over 20, which was over a yard of fabric written off.

Sorry one person taking advantage ruins it for everyone else. What you see as just an inch, a tiny piece, just a few pennies turns into higher prices for everyone when they do it for everybody and they end up writing off yards and yards.

As unfortunate of a policy as it is, people were making entire projects out of the free two inch samples they used to give. I once overheard someone boasting about how 'all you have to do is go to Joann's and ask for samples, then you can make a whole quilt for free!'

Gotta kind of respect the dedication to construct something that involved from two inch pieces, but it does suck that it ruined it for the rest of us.
